Scholarship
The Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE) provides scholarship to French children residing abroad whose families lack sufficient financial resources to cover tuition. Scholarship is granted based on recommendations from local scholarship committees (established at diplomatic/consular posts) to the Agency, which makes final decisions after review by a National Committee. Scholarship may fully or partially cover tuition fees.
For LFIC, accredited by the French Ministry of National Education, scholarship is available to students in preschool and elementary cycles. Secondary students may receive exceptions via AEFE approval upon local committee recommendation.
Children must be registered as "French Citizens Residing Abroad" at the Consulate General of France in Guangzhou.
Scholarship is allocated according to criteria specific to each diplomatic/consular post or country. These criteria account for: local cost of living, tuition fees, family income and composition, and additional financial burdens.
In summary, any child who:
may submit a scholarship application.
Application forms and required documents can be obtained directly from the school or the Consulate General of France in Guangzhou.
Current students applying for scholarship renewal
Complete applications must be prepared by February prior to the next academic year.
Submit materials to the Consulate for review and interview; additional documents may be requested.
Applications are reviewed by the Local Scholarship Committee in late March. The Committee will make a recommendation and the final approval rests with AEFE.
Results are communicated via email by September.
Note: The Committee reviews:
- renewal applications for the next academic year;
- first-time applications from families residing in the consular district at the time of review, whose child (current LFIC student or not) will enroll the following year.
No renewal applications will be accepted after this committee review.
You arrive in the consular district after the First Local Committee and your child will be enrolled at LFIC in September. You wish to apply for a grant for the first time:
Your scholarship application and supporting documents must be complete by the beginning of September.
You will submit your application to the consulate, which will examine it with you during an interview and, if necessary, ask you for further information.
Your application will be examined by the Second Local Scholarships Committee towards the end of September. The Committee will make a proposal. The final decision rests with the AEFE.
Parents are informed of the outcome of their application via email in December or January. Grants take effect from the start of the new school year in September.
Note: The Second Local Scholarship Committee therefore deals with the first scholarship applications submitted by families who arrived in the consular district between the First and Second Local Committees, as well as any requests for review submitted by applicants from the First Local Committee whose income or family situation has changed significantly in the meantime.
If you arrive at LFIC between the date of the Second Local Committee and the start of the school year the following January and wish to apply for your first scholarship:
Your scholarship application and supporting documents must be complete by the beginning of September.
