LFIC is an accredited institution by the French Ministry of National Education and a partner school of the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE). Our curriculum fully complies with French national standards, and students’ academic progression decisions (décisions d'orientation) are recognized meanwhile by all French schools overseas and those in France. We work to build a school rooted in trust: excellence and benevolence. We commit to the success of all students by addressing the unique needs of each individual.

The organization of schooling
Learning Cycles

The French educational system organizes schooling from kindergarten through middle school into three-year cycles, designed to enhance curricular coherence and ensure progressive, continuous learning. Central to this model is the recognition of each child’s individual developmental pace — acknowledging that every student learns differently. Competencies and knowledge targets are therefore defined flexibly per cycle rather than rigidly by academic year.

  • Cycle 1 :
Early Learning Cycle – Covering the three grades of preschool (PS, MS, GS).
  • Cycle 2 :
    Fundamental Learning Cycle – Spanning Grades 1 to 3 (CP, CE1, CE2)
  • Cycle 3 :
Consolidation Cycle – Extending from Grade 4 to Grade 6 (CM1, CM2, and the first year of lower secondary school, 6ème)
  • Cycle 4 :
In-Depth Learning Cycle – Encompassing lower secondary school years: Grade 7 to Grade 9 (5ème, 4ème and 3ème)
  • Upper Secondary School:
Preparation for the French Baccalauréat and Higher Education

Each educational cycle represents a milestone in students’ progression toward acquiring the Common Foundation of Knowledge, Skills, and Culture. This foundation encompasses all essential knowledge, competencies, values, and attitudes required for academic success.

The Common Foundation of Knowledge, Skills, and Culture

The Common Foundation comprises five domains. Student achievement is evaluated at the end of Cycles 2, 3, and 4. A student progress report is provided to parents, detailing academic mastery and individual growth. Full attainment of the Common Core is required to obtain the French National Diploma (Diplôme National du Brevet).

The five domains of the Common Foundation are:
  • Languages for Thinking and Communication
    1. Mastery of French, foreign & regional languages, digital languages, media literacy, artistic expression, and body language.
  • Methods and Tools for Learning
    2. Training in information literacy and documentation skills. Application of digital tools, project management, and learning organization strategies.
  • Personal and Civic Development
    3. Acquisition of social cohesion principles, collaborative actions, and civic responsibility.
  • Natural and Technical Systems
    4. Scientific and technical approaches to understanding Earth and the universe. Cultivation of curiosity, observational skills, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Representations of the World and Human Activity
    5. Understanding societies across time and space, interpreting cultural productions, and gaining knowledge of the contemporary social world.
